COURTSHIP

Dear Reader,

Welcome to the month of July! This month shall be a month of supernatural turnaround for you and your family in Jesus’ name! This month, we shall be examining COURTSHIP as this will help during your marriage planning period.

What a foundation is to a building is what courtship is to a successful marriage. Courtship is not a worldly doctrine but a biblical practice. A typical example is the story of Joseph and Mary. According to Scripture, Mary was espoused to Joseph. The Bible says: To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary (Luke 1:27).

Therefore, the period of courtship is of great importance and should not be toyed with. A good understanding of what courtship is will make you come out successful during your planning period.

What is Courtship?

Courtship is the period between the time a man and a woman agree to marry and the time they are actually joined together in marriage.This is the time when the foundation of the home in view is laid.This is also the time they learn about each other’s behaviour to know each other better or see if the marriage will work or not. Courtship cannot be separated from marriage. While a godly and successful courtship will give birth to a happy and successful marriage, the negligence of courtship will produce a troublesome and toxic marriage, which cannot stand the test of time.

However, it is important to note that the success or failure of the future home you desire depends largely on what the courtship looks like. That is why you have to be spiritual about it, and it is not what should be rushed into;once you go into it, you will have to stay in it for the rest of your days. The Bible says: If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do (Psalm 11:3)?

A wise man said, ‘When the purpose of a thing is not known, abuse is inevitable’. Many abuse their courtship period because they lack a defined purpose for it. If you are in courtship or about to, this is a pertinent question to ask yourself, ‘Why am I in this courtship? What do I hope to achieve?’ Purpose is power, and it enhances one’s focus.

What is the Purpose of Courtship?

Friendship. As earlier mentioned, courtship is the period where you get to know each other better, and this brings you closer. It is the time to know each other’s weaknesses, strengths, attitudes, temperament and behaviours. Also, it is the time to know each other’s families.

Therefore, conduct yourself in a manner that reflects who you are in Christ, and if you need help for a sound and meaningful courtship, seek for it (Matthew 11:28). The help needed for a meaningful courtship can only come from God, and to access this, you must be born again. If you are not born again, please say this prayer of faith: Lord Jesus Christ, I come to You today. I am a sinner. I cannot help myself. Forgive me of my sins and cleanse me with Your precious Blood. Deliver me from sin and satan to serve the Living God. From today, Lord Jesus, I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Thank You Jesus for saving me! Now, I am Born Again.
