Defined By The Word
26th September 2021
Scripture Reading: Psalm 52: 1-9
Focus
“But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God…” (Psalm 52: 8)
Agriculturists describe the foliage of the olive as having a dull, grayish colour. They describe it in a way that suggests that the olive tree isn’t beautiful. Notice that in scriptures, the olive tree is described as a tree of beauty. Jeremiah 11 vs. 16 says, “The LORD called thy name, A green olive tree, fair, and of goodly fruit…”. Hosea 14 vs. 6 says, “His branches shall spread, and his beauty shall be as the olive tree, and his smell as Lebanon”.
So, while agriculturists suggest that the olive tree is not beautiful, the bible calls it beautiful. While agriculturists suggest that it looks dull, scriptures suggest that it looks radiant. While some people feel the olive tree is not particularly beautiful, God’s word says it is beautiful. While it seems there is no beauty in the olive tree, God’s word sees beauty in it. God’s word gives the olive a better identity than the world gives it.
Friend, you are defined by God’s word, not by the words of men. Your destiny lies in God’s word, not in the words of men. What you are and what you will become in life is not a function of what men say; it is a function of what God has already said about you. You were crafted by God Himself, and everything He has said concerning you will stand, despite the naysayers. You were not designed to live out the predictions of men; you live by the word.
Embrace God’s word concerning you. Take the report of the Lord more seriously than you take the report of men. Take the version of what God says concerning you more seriously that what the doctors’ report says. God’s word says you are fearfully and wonderfully made. God’s word says you are will be the first and not the last; the word calls you a crown in the hands of the Lord; the word calls you a royal priesthood, and a holy nation.
See yourself through the eyes of God’s word. You’re not what people say you are; you’re who God says you are. You are defined by God’s word.
