TOPIC:
NAVIGATING THE FUTURE: TECHNOLOGY AND ITS IMPACT

TEXT:
Prov 2:6-7; 3:5-6; 1Pt 4:10; Rom 12:2

INTRODUCTION:
As we look to the future, technology will continue to play a significant role in shaping our world. It is important that we seek to understand and live out God’s will for our lives in all aspects, including our use of technology. From the way we communicate and connect with others, to the way we work and live out daily lives, technology is increasingly intertwined with every aspect of our society. As believers, it is important that we approach these advancements with wisdom and discernment, seeking to understand how they may impact our lives and the world around us from a biblical perspective.
Through examining the wisdom of God’s word and seeking His guidance, we can learn how to use technology in a way that reflects His truth and values, and that brings glory to His name.

LESSON OBJECTIVES:
The objectives of this study are to:

  1. Understand the potential impacts of technology on our future
  2. Explore biblical principles for navigating the ever changing technological landscape
  3. Consider the ways in which technology can be used for God’s glory and,
  4. Apply the principles from the study to our daily lives

BIBLE TRUTH:

QUESTION 1. HOW WILL TECHNOLOGY LIKELY IMPACT OUR FUTURE ?

There are many ways in which technology is likely to impact our future. Some of the potential impacts of technology on our future could include:

I. THE INCREASING USE OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI): Many experts predict that AI will revolutionize a wide range of industries and sectors. AI has the potentials to improve efficiency, productivity, and accuracy in many areas, but it also raises ethical concerns and could potentially displace certain jobs.

II. THE PROLIFERATION OF VIRTUAL AND AUGMENTED REALITY (VR/AR): VR and AR technologies have to potentials to change the way we experience and interact with the world around us. For example, VR could be used for education, training, and entertainment, while AR could be used for advertisment, retail, and other applications.

III. THE GROWING RELIANCE ON THE INTERNET AND OTHER DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES: The internet has already transformed many aspects of our lives, and is likely to continue to do so in the future. From the way we communicate and access information, to the way we shop and do business, the internet is likely to continue to play a central role in our daily lives.

IV. THE INCREASING USE OF DRONES AND OTHER AUTONOMOUS SYSTEMS: Drones and other autonomous systems are likely to become more prevalent in the future, with applications ranging from military and emergency response to transportation and logistics. These technologies have the potentials to improve efficiency and safety, but they also raise concerns about privacy and security. Technology is likely to have a significant impact on our future, with the potential to transform many aspects of our lives. While there are many benefits to these advancements, it is important that we approach them with wisdom and discernment, seeking to understand the potential impacts and implications of these technologies from a biblical perspective

QUESTION 2. WHAT BIBLICAL PRINCIPLES CAN GUIDE US IN NAVIGATING THE EVER CHANGING TECHNOLOGICAL LANDSCAPE ?

There are several biblical principles that can guide us in navigating the ever changing technological landscape. These principles included:

I. SEEKING WISDOM AND DISCERNMENT (Prov 2:6-7 NIV): As believer, we are called to seek wisdom and discernment in all things from God including our use of technology. This may involve seeking the guidance of others who have more expertise or experience and being open to learning and growing in our understanding of these technologies.

II. SEEKING GOD’S WILL AND GUIDANCE IN OUR DECISIONS (Prov 3:5-6 NIV ): As we navigate the technological landscape, it is important that we seek God’s will and guidance in our decisions. This may involve seeking God’s direction through prayer, seeking the counsel of other believers, and being open to God’s leading in our lives.

III. BEING GOOD STEWARDS OF THE RESOURCES GOD HAS GIVEN US (1Pt 4:10 NIV ): As believers, we are called to be good stewards of the resources that God has given to us, including our time, money, and talents. This may involve being mindful of how we use technology, seeking to use it in a way that is responsible and beneficial to others.

IV. USING OUR RESOURCES FOR GOD’S GLORY AND THE BENEFITS OF OTHERS (Col 3:17): As believers, we are called to use our resources, including technology, for God’s glory and the benefits of others. This may involve using technology to share the gospel with others, to connect with and serve others, and to create and share contents that reflects God’s truth and values.
By seeking wisdom and discernment, seeking God’s will and guidance, being good stewards of the resources He has given to us, and using our resources for His glory and the benefits of others, we can navigate the technological landscape in a way that glorifies God.

QUESTION 3. HOW CAN WE USE TECHNOLOGY FOR GOD’S GLORY AND THE BENEFITS OF OTHERS ?
Some examples of how technology can be used for God’s glory and the benefits of others includes:

I. SHARING THE GOSPEL WITH OTHERS: Technology can be a powerful tool for sharing the gospel with others. For example, we can use social media, websites, and other online platforms to share the message of Jesus with a wide audience. We can also use technology to connect with people who may not otherwise have access to the gospel. Such as those who live in areas difficult to reach with conventional methods.

II. CONNECTING WITH AND SERVING OTHERS:
We can use technology to stay in touch with friends and family members who live far away, to support and encourage one another in our faith journeys, and to find opportunities to serve and minister to others in need.

IV. CREATING AND SHARING CONTENT THAT REFLECTS GOD’S TRUTH AND VALUES:
We can use technology to create and share music, arts, writing, and other forms of media that reflect God’s love, grace, and truth. We can also use technology to share resources and information that will help others grow in their faith and understanding of God’s word

QUESTION 4. HOW VAN WE APPLY THE PRINCIPLES FROM THIS STUDY TO OUR DAILY LIVES ?

Some practical steps we can take includes:

I. SETTING LIMITS ON OUR USE OF TECHNOLOGY: It is important that we use technology in a way that is balanced, healthy, and does not become a distraction or hinderance to our relationship with God and our families. This could be as simple as taking a walk or spending time with family and friends without checking our phones.

II. USING TECHNOLOGY TO CONNECT WITH AND SERVE OTHERS:
We can use social media, messaging apps, and other technologies to stay in touch and support one another in our faith journeys.

III. BEING MINDFUL OF THE CONTENTS WE CONSUME AND SHARE ONLINE:
We can use technology to consume and share contents that reflect God’s truth and values, and to be minded of the contents we consume and share online.

IV. USE TECHNOLOGY TO SERVE AND MINISTER TO OTHERS:
This could involve using social media to find out about volunteer opportunities in our community, or using technology to connect with and support organizations that serve people in need

DAILY LIVING APPLICATION:

As we seek to apply the principles from this study to our daily lives, let us remember that technology is a tool that can be used for God’s glory and the benefits of others. Let us seek to use it wisely and responsibly, setting limits on our technology use to ensure that it does not become a hinderance to our relationship with God, and using it to connect with and serve others. Let us also be mindful of the potential negative impacts of technology on ourselves and others and seek to use it in a way that reflects God’s truth and values.
May the Lord bless us as we seek to use technology for His glory and the benefits of others.
