Do Good Promptly
by Apostle (Prof.) Johnson Suleman

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE: Genesis 33-36

TEXT: “Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thine hand to do it. Say not unto thy neighbor, Go, and come again, and tomorrow I will give; when thou hast it by thee.” Proverbs 3 :27 – 28.

The Bible says in 2 Timothy 3 :16; “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.” Through our anchor scriptures today, God is instructing us not to withhold good from people to whom it is due when it is in the power of our hands to do it. For emphasis, He says we should not tell our neighbour to go and come again or by tomorrow when we have what is needed by us.

Child of God, a cup of water given to a thirsty man promptly is of more value to him than a bucket of water which came later. Quite a number of persons later do good but at a time not so needed. There is this spirit of holding back to it probably to exercise lordship as the giver thereby allowing the one in need to undergo some level of pain before giving or probably they are still struggling to let go of things and give as children of God should.

But whichever the case, you can overcome such for we have been given the power to become the sons of God. John 1 :12.

As children of God we have the Holy Spirit in us to help us express the love of God in our hearts (Rom. 5 :5). So peradventure you are still struggling to do good as God expects of us to people to whom it is due, you are to cry to God for grace asking the Holy Spirit to help you.

Every instruction of God that we give ourselves to in obedience, always have rewards. Why deny yourself of the blessings of God by not doing good promptly. Aside that, there is this sense of fulfillment that arises in you when you obey God’s command. More so, those whom you did such good to promptly appreciates you better and are eternally grateful.

PRAYER: My Father! My Father! As I begin to pray, help me to do good promptly, in Jesus name.
