Do Not Despise or Suppress God’s Truth

Romans 1:18-21 (NIV)
The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them, … For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, …so that people are without excuse. For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened.

It is dangerous to despise or suppress God’s truth. Despising and suppressing God’s truth is the pathway to the corruption and destruction of the lives of those in the world. Our text above reveals one of the negative consequences of deliberately refusing to accept and acknowledge the truth of God’s existence. It leads to vain thinking and darkness or corruption of the heart. It opens the door to all kinds of lusts, perversions and depravities.

The verses that fellow our text above show us that “although they claimed to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles. Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another” (Rom.1:22-24, NIV). These lusts, perversions and depravities lead to all kinds of negative natural consequences in the physical health and other areas of their lives (Rom.1:27). One definition of a fool in the Bible is one who does not acknowledge God (Psa.14:1).

As a believer, you are not like people of the world and you must never try to despise or suppress God’s truth like they do. On the outside, they may seem to be enjoying what they are doing, but deep inside, they are getting rotten, entangled in evil and losing their lives. As you on the other hand continue to accept and acknowledge God’s truth, your life transcends from glory to glory. You experience more of God’s peace, nature and freedom. No matter how it feels or looks, you are being renewed and refreshed by God’s life inwardly.

Prayer:
I accept and acknowledge your truth, dear Lord. I thank you that your truth is causing me to experience your life, peace, freedom and blessings.
