Do Not Despise the Fact that You Have God
Psalms 16:5-6 (KJV, GNB & CEV), Psalms 23:1 (KJV & GNB)
The Lord is the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup: thou maintainest my lot. The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places; yea, I have a goodly heritage. *You, LORD, are all I have, and you give me all I need; my future is in your hands. How wonderful are your gifts to me; how good they are! *You, Lord, are all I want! You are my choice, and you keep me safe. You make my life pleasant, and my future is bright. *The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. *The LORD is my shepherd; I have everything I need.
Many people despise things that they have because they do not really understand their value. If care is not taken, we may also find ourselves despising or placing little or no value on the fact that we have God.
One of the ways we reveal the minimal value we place on the fact that we have God is by how we act and feel amidst difficult situations. The reason the Israelites were afraid of Goliath was because they were not conscious of the fact that God was with them. David was not afraid of Goliath because he was conscious of the fact that he had something that Goliath did not have. He had God on his side. As we see in our text above, David had made God his everything. David was conscious that because he had God, he had everything and therefore, all things were possible for him.
Because you have God, you always have hope. When we feel sad and limited because of something physical that we appear to lack, we are despising God. We are reflecting our ignorance of the fact that God is our sufficiency and that with Him, we have all things and all things are possible. We are revealing that our trust is in other things and not in God. You will always have joy and faith if you are conscious of the fact that God is with you and and that because you have His life, you have all things and all things are possible for you. Do no rely on or value your bank account or the number of friends and connections you have more than you rest in the fact that you have the Almighty God. Like David, encourage yourself in the Lord and ask God for his direction and power in that situation (1Sam. 30:6&8). Do not make God your last resort.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, l thank you that you because I have you, I have everything and all things are possible for me. I rejoice in the fact that I have you!
