DO NOT DESPISE THE SUPERNATURAL

1Thessalonians 5:19-21 (KJV, AMPC)

Do not quench the Spirit. Do not despise prophecies. Test all things; hold fast what is good. *Do not quench (suppress or subdue) the [Holy] Spirit; Do not spurn the gifts and utterances of the prophets [do not depreciate prophetic revelations nor despise inspired instruction or exhortation or warning]. But test and prove all things [until you can recognize] what is good; [to that] hold fast.

One reason why many people are skeptical about the supernatural is because there are certain people who abuse and misuse it. In a bid to avoid deception or to correct those doing it wrongly, we must not end up discouraging ourselves or other believers from manifesting the supernatural. For example, the fact that many people abuse the prophetic or any gift of the Spirit does not mean that the prophetic or gifts of the Spirit are bad or that everybody manifesting it is fake. What God rather wants from us is to learn it and manifest it in the right way so that people can see His power and glory and be drawn to Him. The solution for abuse is not dis-use; but proper use.

In admonishing the believers at the Corinthian Church, Paul said “So, my dear brothers and sisters, be eager to prophesy, and don’t forbid speaking in tongues. But be sure that everything is done properly and in order,” (1Cor.14:39-40, NIV). When you start manifesting the supernatural, some people may start saying negative things about you. Do not allow that discourage you. When Jesus was being accused of using Beelzebub to cast out devils, He made them understand that a kingdom divided against itself cannot stand, then He said “But if I with the finger of God cast out devils, no doubt the kingdom of God is come upon you.”

Faith Declaration:
I do not despise the supernatural. I believe in the supernatural and by the Spirit of God, I manifest it in the right way.
