Do You Have Stubborn Anger?

December 2, 2021

PRAY OVER THIS:

“‘Be angry, and do not sin’: do not let the sun go down on your wrath, nor give place to the devil.” (Ephesians 4:26-27)

PONDER THIS:

In this passage, Paul is talking about stubborn anger. When you let the sun go down upon your anger, you live with your anger. Husbands and wives get into an argument and rather than kneeling by the bed and getting right with God and with one another, they go to bed back-to-back and angry, letting the sun go down upon their wrath. This opens the door to the devil. When we do this, we effectively say, “Devil, come in and wreck my home, come in and destroy my family, come in and ruin my testimony.” Continuing in anger gives the devil a foothold and a fowl nest. Believe me, he is ready to come in, and it is stubborn anger that the devil loves to have as a campground.

  • When have you given the devil an opportunity through your anger?
  • How do these moments tend to multiply sin in your life?

PRACTICE THIS:

As you end the day, set aside time to assess yourself before God, asking if there is anywhere you are continuing to hold onto stubborn anger. Confess this to God and to other people as needed so the sun might not go down on your anger.
