Do You Seek God’s Glory?

BIBLE MEDITATION:

“Now therefore, our God, hear the prayer of Your servant, and his supplications, and for the Lord’s sake cause Your face to shine on Your sanctuary, which is desolate. O my God, incline Your ear and hear; open Your eyes and see our desolations, and the city which is called by Your name; for we do not present our supplications before You because of our righteous deeds, but because of Your great mercies. O Lord, hear! O Lord, forgive! O Lord, listen and act! Do not delay for Your own sake, my God, for Your city and Your people are called by Your name” (Daniel 9:17-19)

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT:

Be honest. When you cry out to God on behalf of our nation, what’s foremost in your mind? Many of us pray “for America’s sake.” So often we’re simply trying to get out of difficulty. Rather than going to God in praise, seeking His glory, we say, “God, we’re in a mess. Get us out so we can go right back on to our sinful lifestyle.”

Daniel is saying, “O God, please forgive us. Remove our guilt.” He’s also praying for the restoration of God’s glory. Notice—“for the Lord’s sake.”

Most of us want revival so we can return to our own ways, once God gets us out of the mess we’re in. Do you have a burning, yearning in your heart for the glory of God? Do you want to see God’s glory spread over this land? I want to see God do something again that cannot be explained by pundits and news anchors.

ACTION POINT:

Daniel is praying for a restoration of God’s glory. When you pray, it must be for His name’s sake. Do you want your nation to bring honor to Him? Then pray for the glory of God. When you do, God will move in.
