DON’T BE AFRAID TO BE DIFFERENT
1John 2:15-17 (GNB) Do not love the world or anything that belongs to the world. If you love the world, you do not love the Father. Everything that belongs to the world—what the sinful self desires, what people see and want, and everything in this world that people are so proud of—none of this comes from the Father…The world and everything in it that people desire is passing away; but those who do the will of God live forever.
When we became children of God by placing our faith in Christ, God called us out from darkness into His marvelous light (1Pet.2:9). We are now light in this world and are different from the people of this world. We must not be afraid or ashamed to be different. Because our desires and passions are different from those of this world, we cannot love the things of this world and love the things that God loves at the same time. While the lives of the people of this world are filled with various kinds of lusts and desires, our lives must be filled with the love of God and the things that He loves and desires. Those who are not deliberate about preventing the iniquity that is prevailing in the world from filling their hearts will find themselves unconsciously growing cold towards God and the things of God (Matt.24:12).

We are from above. We are risen with Christ and seated together in Him in heavenly places. As such, we must set our affection and desires on things that are above and not on things on the earth (Col.3:1-2). We must desire to grow in our relationship with God and grow in our understanding of all that Christ has done for us so that we can be all that Christ gave His life for us to become. And although gross darkness might be covering the earth and its people, the glory and light of God will be caused to increase in our lives (Isa.60:2).
Prayer:
Dear Father, I desire to grow in my love for you and for the things you love. Help me to guard my heart and grow in that love.
