DON’T BE AN ENEMY OF THE CROSS
Philippians 3:17-19 (NLT)
Dear brothers and sisters, pattern your lives after mine, and learn from those who follow our example. For I have told you often before, and I say it again with tears in my eyes, that there are many whose conduct shows they are really enemies of the cross of Christ. They are headed for destruction. Their god is their appetite, they brag about shameful things, and they think only about this life here on earth.
An enemy of the Cross of Christ is not an unbeliever or someone who does not believe in Christ. It is a person who claims to believe in Christ but whose life is not controlled and influenced by the revelation of what Christ did on the Cross. A believer who understands the Cross’s revelation and how it controls and influences his or her life will surrender and yield his or her life to Jesus’ Lordship. Jesus will truly be the Lord and owner of his/her life. Jesus did not just die for us; we died with Him. As a result, we have died to our old lives and are now living His.

Our lives belong to Him, and we can no longer live them the way we want, but in the way that pleases Christ (2 Cor.5:14-15, LB). It is not your attendance at church, bearing the name Christian, or being a minister or spiritual leader that qualifies you as a disciple of Christ and a friend of His Cross (Matthew 7:21-23). It is your faith in Christ and the revelation of the Cross of Christ that is influencing the way you live your life. You are no longer living for yourself, but for Christ.
Enemies of the Cross of Christ live only to please themselves. Their mind is on earthly things and they are controlled by evil desires. They desire things just like people of the world do. They become blinded and corrupted by their desires and begin to twist the truth of the Gospel to suit themselves. They become covetous and false ministers and they see godliness as a means for self-aggrandizement, (1 Tim.6:5).
Faith Declaration:
My life is controlled and influenced by the Cross of Christ. I do not live for myself; I live to please and glorify Christ
