But the fruit of the [Holy] Spirit [the work which His presence within accomplishes] is love, joy (gladness), peace, patience (an even temper, forbearance), kindness, goodness (benevolence), faithfulness, gentleness (meekness, humility), self-control (self-restraint, continence). Against such things there is no law [that can bring a charge].— Galatians 5:22-23 (AMPC)

The Bible says that we need to be doers of the Word [obey the message], and not merely listeners to it (James 1:22AMPC). In other words, we’re to apply its teaching to our everyday lives; when we do, we can reap the blessings that come with being obedient.

Procrastination is one of the greatest barriers to putting God’s word into action in our lives. It takes self-control to do something we need to do but don’t feel like doing, and it also takes self-control not to do something we want to do that isn’t good for us. Self-control is a fruit of the Spirit that comes into our lives by spending time with God, and it helps us to not only obey His Word, but to do it at the right time, without putting it off.

I want to encourage you to start asking God to give you the self-control to do what’s right when He asks you to. As you do that, you’ll begin to overcome procrastination and see His grace at work in your life in a new way.

Prayer Starter: Father, please give me the self-control I need to do what’s right without putting it off. Thank You for Your grace to grow today. In Jesus’ Name, amen
