Empowered to Know and Do God’s Will

Philippines 2:12-13 (GNB), 1 Corinthians 2:11b-12 (GNB)
… as you always obeyed me when I was with you, it is even more important that you obey me now while I am away from you. Keep on working with fear and trembling to complete your salvation, because God is always at work in you to make you willing and able to obey his own purpose. *…only God’s Spirit knows all about God. We have not received this world’s spirit; instead, we have received the Spirit sent by God, so that we may know all that God has given us.

Many believers fear and doubt their ability to know and do God’s will. Unknown to them, this fear or doubt is actually one of the things that hinder them from knowing and doing God’s will (James 1:5-8). Some believers think that the will of God is a far-reaching mystery that they may not be holy or ‘spiritual’ enough to know and do. What they do not realize is that because of how much God loves us and how much He wants us to know and do His will, God has made it very easy and possible for us.

The first thing that God has done to empower you to know and do His will is that He has given you His life. By the life of God in you, you have the ability to know and do God’s will. You are not ordinary. You are different from the people of this world. The people of this world do not have the ability to know the will of God but you do. The Bible says, “…the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned” (1Cor.2:14). “That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit” (John 3:6). Your Spirit is now alive and connected to God and you have the ability to receive direction from Him. In John 10:27, Jesus said, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.”

God has not only given you His life, He is also always active and at work in you by His Spirit to help you know and do His will at all times. As our helper, the Holy Spirit is always helping us by revealing the deep things on God’s mind to us (1Cor.2:9-12).

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I thank you that by the virtue of your life in me and by the virtue of your Spirit ar work in me, I can know and do your will always.
