MEMORISE: He, that being often reproved hardeneth his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy. Proverbs 29:1

READ: Hebrews 12:6-8

6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.

7 If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?

8 But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Genesis 18-19; Matthew 6

MESSAGE:

When your parents or guardians chastise you, it may seem as if they don’t like you, but the Bible says it is those that love you that will correct you (Proverbs 3:12). Hard as their discipline and correction may be, have it at the back of your mind that it is because they love you. Don’t take that as a reason to become rebellious to give you a better future.

When I was in grammar school, my teacher beat one of the students who had a rich father. The boy’s father came to school the next day and beat up the teacher. The teacher went to report to the local police man in the village, but the boy’s father had already gone ahead to bribe the local police, so they ignored his complaint and he returned to school in shame. When he got back to the classroom, he separated the rich people’s children from those of us that came from poor homes, then said from that day henceforth, he will never beat any of the children of the rich, but he will continue beating the poor people’s children when the err as corporal punishment was recognized by the school’s management. It seemed unfair at the time and the rich people’s children were happy, but today, I don’t know if any of those rich people’s children have amounted to much in life. If only they knew at that time, they would have begged the teacher to continue to chastise them. Maybe today, the story would have been different. But the rod was spared and the children were spoilt (Proverbs 13:24).

Key Point:

Endure correction and act on them so ypu will become a better person.

Hymn 3:

1 When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word,
What a glory He sheds on our way!
While we do His good will,
He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.

Chorus:
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

2 Not a shadow can rise, not a cloud in the skies,
But His smile quickly drives it away;
Not a doubt or a fear, not a sigh or a tear,
Can abide while we trust and obey.

3 Not a burden we bear, not a sorrow we share,
But our toil He doth richly repay;
Not a grief or a loss, not a frown or a cross,
But is blessed if we trust and obey.

4 But we never can prove the delights of His love
Until all on the altar we lay;
For the favor He shows, for the joy He bestows,
Are for them who will trust and obey.

5 Then in fellowship sweet we will sit at His feet,
Or we’ll walk by His side in the way;
What He says we will do, where He sends we will go;
Never fear, only trust and obey.
