ENTERING GOD’S REST

HEBREWS 4:9-12 (NIV)

There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works, just as God did from his. Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will perish by following their example of disobedience. For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, ….

We studied yesterday that God’s rest is different from physical rest. God rested not because He was tired, but because the work was complete. God’s work for every need we will ever have in our lives has also been completed through Christ. It was completed before the foundation of the world, Christ came to manifest it on the cross and as we hear the Gospel, we know what God has already done for us through Christ so we can believe and receive its manifestation in our lives, (Rom.1:16).

The physical Sabbath God instructed the Israelites to observe was only a symbol of Christ, (Col.2:16-17). God wants us to labour or make every effort to enter His rest; and the way we labour or make every effort to enter God’s rest is by labouring in the word of God (Gospel/revelation of Christ). It is by studying the revelation of Christ abundantly and declaring it until faith is stirred up in our hearts and we are persuaded. Jesus said as we learn of Him (what He has done for us) we will find rest for our souls, (Matt.11:28-30). The major sign that you have entered God’s rest is that your heart is full of faith and you are assured that because of Christ you will experience the blessings, power and glory of God in your life. You are not worried about what you need to do or how/if you will qualify for them. The devil’s greatest desire is to bring you out of your place of rest (faith) in Christ. Strive to stay in faith.

PRAYER:
FATHER, I THANK YOU FOR THE PERFECT WORK CHRIST HAS ACCOMPLISHED ME. HELP ME TO LABOUR IN THE WORD AND ENTER YOUR REST.
