And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord

Just as we provide for our children’s physical well-being, God instructs us to help them develop their God-given attributes.

From the manger to the time of His appointed ministry, Joseph and Mary created a home where Jesus was enabled to become what God had designed Him to be. Even though He sometimes baffled them, they trained and loved Him. Mary treasured what she did not fully understand.

As parents, we might observe frustrating character traits in our children that lead to worry for their future. But just like a bit in the mouth of a runaway horse, we can bridle and guide those characteristics to be used in great ways.

We can teach them to harness and focus those traits, so they become tools in the hands of God. An impetuous Peter can become a fiery preacher. A persecuting Paul can become a mighty missionary.

God entrusted Jesus to Mary and Joseph; their home was the safe space where He had the opportunity to grow into God’s plan. God has entrusted our children to us for the same purpose. It is a sacred charge. Our children are proof of His confidence in our ability to help them grow in wisdom and stature and favor (Luke 2:52).

Blessing:

May the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you and give you His peace. May the divine anointing of God empower you to raise your children in the ways of the Lord. May the coming generation rise up to usher in the glory of His kingdom!
