FAITH, GODLY SORROW AND REPENTANCE (1)

Hebrews 11:6, 2Corinthians 7:10a (NIV, TPT)

But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, …God designed us to feel remorse over sin in order to produce repentance that leads to victory. This leaves us with no regrets…

It is important that we have a good understanding of the difference and the roles of faith, godly sorrow and repentance in our lives and walk with God. What we do to be saved is to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, (Acts 16:30-31). We are saved by grace through faith, (Eph.2:8). Faith comes as we hear the Gospel of Christ, (Rom.10:13-17). Our faith pleases God, our faith is our victory and by faith is how we live and experience the life and will of God.

Now, God has made provision for us, not only to be restored if we sin, but to grow and experience victory over sin itself. Sin is no longer our nature and we now have the ability in Christ to overcome sin. If we fall into sin, God wants us to receive His forgiveness and to be conscious of the price that Jesus has paid for our sins, (1John 2:1-2, GNB). A believer is supposed to feel bad if he or she sins. Some reasons we feel bad if we sin are; God hates sin, sin is deadly and deceptive and sin is no longer our nature.

However, feeling bad about sin is not enough. We must allow God control and direct that feeling. We must let that feeling draw us to God. This is godly sorrow and this is what produces repentance. Godly sorrow is not repentance. Godly sorrow leads to repentance and repentance leads to victory over sin. Repentance is to change or renew your mind. This is what makes you successfully turn away from sin.

Prayer:
Dear Father, I thank you that I do not only receive forgiveness if I sin, but as I draw to you, I can repent and be victorious over sin.
