FAITH, LOVE AND PRAYING IN THE SPIRIT (2)

EPHESIANS 6:18 (CEV), 1CORINTHIANS 14:2 & 14 (TPT) Never stop praying, especially for others. Always pray by the power of the Spirit. Stay alert and keep praying for God’s people. *When someone speaks in tongues, no one understands…, because he’s not speaking to people, but to God—he is speaking intimate mysteries in the Spirit. *…if I am praying in a tongue, my spirit is engaged in prayer but I have no clear understanding of what is being said.

In our study yesterday, we saw that praying in tongues requires faith and that it also builds our faith. Our focus today is on how we express the love of God as we pray in the Spirit.

The first way we express God’s love by praying in the Spirit is that many times while we are praying in the Spirit, though we may be unaware of it, the Holy Spirit is using us to pray and intercede for other believers. You will be amazed if God opens your eyes to the great impact that such prayers of yours are having on the faith and lives of other believers around the world. Though Peter had to go through a very trying time, Jesus’ prayer for Peter preserved and strengthened Peter’s faith. Peter eventually became a great source of strength and blessing to so many people, (Luke 22:31-32, Acts 5:15).

The second way we express love by praying in the Spirit is that praying in the Spirit helps us to be more conscious, sensitive and yielded to the Holy Spirit. As this happens, both the fruit and the gifts of the Spirit can flow out of us; and we can be a blessing to the lives of others, (John 7:38-39). Please note that praying in tongues does not replace praying in our understanding: it enhances it, (1 Cor.14:15). We need to do both abundantly.

ACTION POINT:
Spend some time to pray in tongues and allow the Holy Spirit use you and lead you to intercede for other believers
