Then this Daniel distinguished himself above the governors and satraps, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king gave thought to setting him over the whole realm.
Daniel 6:3

Modern labor, or trade, unions have their origin in eighteenth-century Britain’s Industrial Revolution. In order to represent workers’ interests to management, labor unions were formed. And to facilitate the communication of workers’ interests, unions elected a shop steward to speak on their behalf. The stewards are people who speak or act on behalf of others and facilitate their interests.
The prophet Daniel was one of three administrators—or stewards—appointed by King Darius to represent his interests to 120 regional administrators (Daniel 6:1-2). Daniel was so faithful that Darius planned to promote him as overseer of his entire kingdom. Daniel was exhibiting the chief characteristic of stewards as noted by the apostle Paul: faithfulness (1 Corinthians 4:2). Every Christian is a steward of the gifts and grace of God. As such, our chief responsibility is to be found faithful.
At your job, in your home, in your personal life, in your church—faithfulness is what God seeks in every situation.
Spiritual advancement is measured by faithful obedience.
