FAMILY GOVERNMENT-PART 1
Dear Reader,
Welcome to the month of July! This month, we shall be examining The Family Government. Just like any organisation, the family needs to be governed, and its affairs need to be controlled and directed to ensure peace and fulfilment.
What is Family
According to the Longmans Dictionary of Contemporary English, a family is a group of people who are closely related to each other, especially the mother, father and their children representing the nuclear family. It can also be referred to as two or more people who share common goals and values, who have a long term commitment to one another and usually reside in the same dwelling place under one roof or live in the same house
From the biblical perspective, another word for family is ‘Household’, and the Bible says: The Lord hath been mindful of us: he will bless us; he will bless the house of Israel; he will bless the house of Aaron (Psalm 115:12).

What is Government
It is a small group of persons holding the principal political executive office of a nation or other political units and being responsible for the direction and supervision of affairs. Therefore, the government of the home rest on the shoulders of both the father and mother. When the two parties co-operate in discharging their responsibilities, family government becomes easy, and the home becomes an interesting place to live in; it also becomes an abode for God and the Holy Spirit. Today we will be looking at the responsibilities of the man.
The man
The man is the head and leader of the family government. The Bible says: For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body (Ephesians 5:23). In any human organisation, there is always the need for leadership, and the home is an organisation that requires good leadership. So men need to give good leadership, not only to themselves but also to their household. If you cannot rule your house well, there is a limit to how far you can go in the things of God. To rule the home well, the man must be a loving leader, not a taskmaster.
Also, love is a necessary ingredient that a man must possess for effective leadership. Christ rules the Church with the rod of love. So for the man to succeed, he must rule his home with the same, and this is a scriptural commandment (Ephesians 5:25). Husbands are to love their wives sacrificially, unconditionally and limitlessly. Remember, love is not love until it is expressed. Therefore, as the head of the home, live up to expectation so that Christ can be magnified, not only in your life but in your home as well.
For anything to reflect on the outside, it must first take root within. You need to be rooted in God’s family by becoming His child to have access to what you possess. So if you are not born again, please say this prayer of faith: Lord Jesus Christ, I come to You today. I am a sinner. I cannot help myself. Forgive me of my sins and cleanse me with Your precious Blood. Deliver me from sin and satan to serve the Living God. From today, Lord Jesus, I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Thank You Jesus for saving me! Now, I am Born Again.
