Focus on Christ to Know and Do God’s Will

Philippines 3:8-10 (NLT)
…everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I could gain Christ and become one with him. I no longer count on my own righteousness through obeying the law; rather, I become righteous through faith in Christ. …. I want to know Christ and experience the mighty power that raised him from the dead. I want to suffer with him, sharing in his death.

Before Jesus came to the earth, there was nobody else who knew and did the will of God the Father like Jesus did. In John 17:4, Jesus said to God, “I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.” Though He was a man like us, the Bible says, “Jesus was tempted in every way that we are, but He did not sin” (Heb.4:15, CEV). Jesus only did what He saw God doing (John 5:19) and He only spoke what God taught Him to say (John 8:28). Jesus is the perfect reflection of God (Heb.1:3).

For us to really know God’s will, we have to know God first. We cannot know God if we do not focus on Jesus. If we really desire to know and do God’s will, then we must fix all of our attention and focus on Jesus. As we do this, we will be empowered, just like Jesus was, to know and do the will of God. As we keep our focus on Jesus, the Holy Spirit transforms us from glory to glory into His image (2Cor.3:18). Nothing glorifies and pleases God like Christ. This is why God said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!” (Matt.17:5, NIV).

Jesus is the word of God. All of scriptures testify about Him. It is only by focusing on Him that we can receive the life of God in the scriptures (John 5:38-40). We must let the revelation of Christ dwell in us richly (Col.3:16). Jesus is the way, the truth and the life of God the Father (John 14:6). When Apostle Paul understood all this, his greatest desire became to know Jesus and to be like Jesus. This must continually be our desire also.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I want to know and do your will, just as Jesus did. Please reveal Jesus to me and by your Spirit, continue to make me more like Him.
