FOCUS ON GOD’S PROMISES

“According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.” 2 Peter 1:3-4 KJV

It is so easy to fall apart, burn out, turn away or become relaxed and say that it doesn’t really matter in this present age. People easily ask: “what’s the use of really serving God?” That’s exactly where the devil really wants to get us. Hence, it’s important to be focused, no matter what.

The fact that you have divine nature does not mean you are a partaker of the divine nature. That you are born again and you have received the life of Christ in you does not automatically mean you will partake of that divine nature.  Our text says: “whereby are given to us exceeding great and precious promises that by these, ye might be the partakers of divine nature.”

This means that as I am operating in these promises, I am able to escape the corruption that is in the world through lust. There is always a way of escape from the vicissitudes and pressures that come against you in different areas of life. It is just like an airplane: those who know about aerodynamics will tell you the law of gravity is always there. What goes up must come down but airplane manufacturers had to find a way to overrule the law of gravity. So, a plane can go up and overrule the law of gravity because it operates on a different law- the law of lift.

Similarly, God wants us as His children to operate on a different law even though we are in the world, but not of the world. What will make you overcome are the promises He has given to us. So, if I have to partake from them, then I must pay attention to those promises. It is not a onetime affair.
