From Truth to Reality
John 16:13-15 (TPT), Luke 1:34-35
But when the truth-giving Spirit comes, he will unveil the reality of every truth within you. … He will glorify me on the earth, for he will receive from me what is mine and reveal it to you. Everything that belongs to the Father belongs to me—that’s why I say that the Divine Encourager will receive what is mine and reveal it to you. *Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, …? And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee…
Like Mary in our second text above, there are often times that we may question what God has said about us since it may appear vague or impossible under the circumstances. But as the angel said to Mary, that is the job of the Holy Spirit. When He overshadows you, things that look like mists and shadows will become tangible and real to you. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth. He reveals God’s truth to us and causes it to become flesh or real in our lives. The Bible gives us the confidence to know that we have received the Spirit of God so we can know the deep things on the mind of God for us (1Cor.2:9-12). The Holy Spirit reveals Christ, all that He has and all that Christ has done to us. He reveals these things to us and causes us to experience them. That is how He glorifies Christ in our lives. He is the One that manifests the resurrection life and power of God into every area of our lives. He strengthens our conviction that we are children of God (Rom.8:11 & 16).
The Holy Spirit also reveals and spreads the love of God in our hearts (Rom.5:5). He makes the life and love of God real to us. He is our comforter and helper (John 14:26). It was by His help that we became born again (1Cor.12:3) and are continually transformed from glory to glory into the image of Christ (2Cor.3:18). He is the One that produces His fruit and manifests His gifts in our lives. He is the One that empowers us to be witnesses for Christ (Acts 1:8). When the Holy Spirit came upon the same Peter who denied Jesus three times, Peter spoke boldly about Jesus and three thousand souls were saved (Acts 2:4, 14 & 41). Without the Holy Spirit, Christianity is just an empty religion.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I yield myself to your Spirit. Overshadow me by your Spirit and make your truth real in my life.
