FRUITFULNESS AND PRUNING
John 15:2 (AMPC), Hebrews 12:11 (NIV)
Any branch in Me that does not bear fruit […] He cuts away (…); and He cleanses and repeatedly prunes every branch that continues to bear fruit, to make it bear more and richer and more excellent fruit No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.
Whenever a plant is being pruned, it is because it is fruitful. The pruning is therefore to prepare and position it for greater fruitfulness. Certain excesses in the plant are trimmed off and the plant is put in a better shape to prepare it for a greater harvest. In the same way, as a believer, God corrects and chastises you as His child because you are fruitful. He uses correction and chastisement to position and prepare you for greater fruitfulness. He uses correction and chastisement to remove certain excesses that can limit the greater harvest He has in store for you.
We must therefore have the right perspective and attitude towards chastisement and correction. We must stop seeing chastisement and correction as punishment or something that is happening to harm or destroy us. We must know that we are being corrected and chastised because we are fruitful and God wants us to bear more fruit.
Though correction and chastisement can be painful at the moment, the harvest it produces in our lives will far outweigh the pain of the moment. God does not use negative circumstances to correct and chastise us. He uses His word to correct and chastise us, (Psa.94:12). Receive and yield to God’s word in whatever situation you are facing.
Prayer:
Dear Father, I thank you that you correct and chastise me because you love me and want me to be more fruitful. Help me to yield much fruit.
