I will fulfill my vows to the Lord in the presence of all his people.— Psalm 116:18 (NIV)

We make a vow when we tell someone we will do something, or we promise to do something. People take vows when they marry. These are commonly called marriage vows, and they should be taken seriously. Marriage vows are not to be made quickly or broken carelessly, and when marriage becomes difficult, we should do everything we can do to work things out and keep the vows we have made. God does not think a vow is unimportant. He knows that a vow is very important and should not be made unless a person fully intends to honor it.

We sometimes say we will do things, but don’t follow through. Many people today seem to think that failing to keep their vows (promises) is no problem. Glibly saying to someone, “I’ll call you soon, and we will go to lunch” may not seem important, but as far as God is concerned, we have vowed or promised to do something, and it is important that we keep our word and do it.

Dave and I diligently endeavor to do what we say we will do. I believe God blesses people who take their word seriously. He always keeps His Word; we expect Him to do so, and He expects the same from us. When we tell God we will do something, we should always follow through with it. If you have unfulfilled vows in your life, I urge you to fulfill them, and if needed, apologize for not doing so previously.

Prayer of the Day: Father, I am so sorry for the promises I have made and not kept. Forgive me and help me to correct the ones that I can and to always keep my word from this time forward. Thank You, amen
