READ: Matthew 10:1-10

Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.” – Luke 9:23

In this law, which Jesus teaches us in Matthew 10:5, He teaches us to concentrate on our particular area of calling. In full-time ministry, we will only find true fruitfulness when we stay within the domain assigned to us. Jesus told the Apostles to avoid Gentiles and Samaritans and concentrate on the lost sheep of Israel. When you know your calling, it is your duty to concentrate your efforts on your area of calling. As you do this you will become a better minister. People will recognize your gift in that area. This so-called gift is actually the fruit of you concentrating to perfect your calling.

Jesus also teaches on the law of trusting God for finances. “Provide neither gold, nor silver, nor brass in your purses, Nor scrip for your journey, neither two coats, neither shoes, nor yet staves: for the workman is worthy of his meat” (Matthew 10:9-10).

Full-time ministry is all about trusting God for finances. Full-time ministry is not an alternative to your secular employment. Neither is it a place to achieve your financial aspirations. It is all about trusting God for everything. God will take care of you as you work for Him. I cannot overemphasize this reality of ministry. Ministry is not for money. Ministry is for the service of God. Anyone who does this sacred work with the intention of using the ministry as a source of riches is likely to end up in trouble. As old fashioned as it may sound, you will have to trust God to provide everything for you.
