And [Israel] blessed Joseph, and said: ‘God, before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac walked, the God who has fed me all my life long to this day…
How did Abraham walk with God? On a daily basis. God provided the daily bread that nourished and sustained him.
How could Abraham leave the only life he knew at God’s command? He moved from a prosperous city to a tent in the desert. He followed a God that no one else believed in or recognized.
How could he believe that he would be the father of many nations? He was an old man with a barren wife and no son. How could he gather up that miracle son a few years later to sacrifice him on Mt. Moriah?
Abraham fed on the daily bread of God. As he walked towards the place of sacrifice, he trusted a God Who had never led him astray, Who had always kept His promises.
Even as he bound Isaac to the altar, Abraham believed that God would honor the covenant between them. Knife raised, God sent an angel to grasp his wrist and provided a sacrificial ram instead.
On that same hilltop, God sent His Son, Jesus, as a sacrifice for us. The Bread of Heaven bought every promise found in the Word of God. Like Abraham, we can walk with Him, trust Him for our daily bread.
Blessing:
May the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you and give you His peace. Choose to walk with the God of Abraham and Isaac. He will feed and prosper you all your life long. Praise Him for His lovingkindness.
