God will Preserve You for His Purpose

Genesis 20:2-6 (GNB)
he said that his wife Sarah was his sister. So King Abimelech… had Sarah brought to him. One night God appeared to him…and said: “You are going to die, because you have taken this woman;… “But Abimelech had not come near her, and he said, “Lord, I am innocent! …Abraham himself said that she was his sister, … I did this with a clear conscience, and I have done no wrong.” God replied … “Yes, I know that you did it with a clear conscience; so I kept you from sinning against me and did not let you touch her.”

Many challenges that we face result simply because of the plan and purpose that God has for our lives. The devil will do everything to distract and discourage us so we can give up on the plan and purpose that God has for our lives. But God will also shield us, strengthen us and give us victory over all the schemes of the devil. Many are the affliction of the righteous but the Lord delivers him from them all (Psa.34:19). When Moses needed to be born to save the Israelites from their bondage in Egypt, Pharaoh gave a command for all male newborns to be killed (Exo.1:16). Despite this negative decree, Moses was born, his life was preserved and he fulfilled God’s purpose for his life. When Jesus was born to save and redeem mankind, Herod similarly made a proclamation for the killing of all children in Bethlehem and its environs who were two and younger (Matt.2:16). Before this time, Jesus had been taken to Egypt as directed by an angel of God. Despite everything that Jesus went through, God preserved His life.

Abraham had lied about Sarah being his wife in order to preserve his life (Gen.20:11). As a result, king Abimelech took Sarah unto himself. However, God restrained king Abimelech from touching Sarah and made him return her to Abraham. God preserved Sarah because of His promise and purpose for Sarah’s life. Just as God restrained king Abimelech from touching Sarah, God will restrain the devil and every one that will try to harm or stop you from fulfilling God’s purpose for your life. God will keep you from falling (Jude 1:24). The Bible assures us that “…the Lord can rescue you and me from the temptations that surround us,” (2 Peter 2:9, LB). What you are going through will not swallow you up. After that challenge, God will perfect you, strengthen you and establish you (1Pet.5:10).

Prayer:
I worship you and thank you, dear Father, for your power and glory that is restraining the hand of the devil and preserving me to fulfil purpose.
