God Will Provide

JUNE 10, 2024

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.
Matthew 6:34

 Recommended Reading: Luke 10:41-42

In a popular card game, the expression “passing the buck” evolved to mean passing the task of dealing the cards to another player. But President Harry S. Truman instituted a different take on the phrase “passing the buck.” He had a sign on his desk in the Oval Office that read, “The Buck Stops Here.” He was communicating that his job was to make decisions and take responsibility for the nation—not something he could pass on to another.

When it comes to providing for our needs, Jesus indicated (in so many words) that the buck stops with God. This was an important message for His disciples. He had called them away from their jobs and livelihoods (Matthew 4:18-22), something they reminded Him of on occasion (Matthew 19:27). Jesus’ message to them was not to worry about food and clothing and tomorrow’s needs (Matthew 6:25-34). God knows our every need and will provide (verse 32). If we seek Him first, all else will be given (verse 33).

Living by faith means “being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see” (Hebrews 11:1, NIV1984)—including tomorrow’s needs.

God’s purposes always have God’s provision.
