As it is written, I have made you the father of many nations. [He was appointed our father] in the sight of God in Whom he believed, Who gives life to the dead and speaks of the nonexistent things that [He has foretold and promised] as if they [already] existed.— Romans 4:17 (AMPC)

One of the great privileges we have, but frequently fail to make use of, is speaking of things that are not yet evident as if they already exist. For example, God’s Word encourages us to say we are strong even if we are weak (see Joel 3:10). If you believe God has strength available for you, as His Word says, why keep saying you are weak?

We need to say what God says and do what He does if we want to follow His plans for us and have what He wants us to have. We should be confessing God’s promises as if they already exist in our lives (because they do in the spiritual realm!). We are called to walk by faith and not by sight (see 2 Corinthians 5:7). In other words, we believe what God says in His Word even more than we believe what we see.

Prayer Starter: Thank You for Your promises and your faithfulness. Help me to speak the way Your Word says I should speak. In Jesus’ name, amen
