GOD’S REST

Hebrews 4;2-3 (NIV)

For we also have had the good news proclaimed to us, just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to them, because they did not share the faith of those who obeyed. Now we who have believed enter that rest, just as God has said, So I declared on oath in my anger, ‘They shall never enter my rest.’” And yet his works have been finished since the creation of the world.

God’s rest is different from physical rest. Physical rest is about relaxing or taking a break from work, activities or exertion of energy, for the purpose of rejuvenating strength. Physical rest is good and important, but God’s rest is different. God did not rest after creation because He was tired, or because He needed to rejuvenate His strength. God rested because His work was perfect and finished. Everything had been done that would produce everything else that was needed.

Now, God did not only rest from His physical works of creation, He also rested from His supernatural works in the life of the new creation. The Bible describes Jesus as the Lamb that was slain from the foundation of the world, (Rev.13:8). This is why even after man’s fall, God told the serpent that the seed of the woman will bruise its head, (Gen.3:15). Christ’s victory over the devil was already settled. God gave us His grace in Christ before the world began, (2Tim.1:9). Christ came to manifest on the Cross what God had already done through Him before the world began, and this is revealed to us as we hear the Gospel, (2Tim.1:9-10). The way we enter God’s rest now is by believing that through Christ, everything has been done for us to experience the blessing, power and glory of God in our lives. God’s rest is about restraining from struggling in our efforts to make God do what He already made Christ do for us.

Faith Declaration:
I believe in Christ’s perfect work on cross. I qualify for all God’s blessings because of what Christ has done for me.
