GRACE TO EMBRACE THE CROSS OF CHRIST

Ephesians 3:16-19 (NIV)

I pray that…he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power… to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

The fact that a person wears a necklace with a cross or has a sculpture or picture frame of Christ on the Cross does not mean that such a person has embraced or fully identified with the Cross of Christ. The basic way we embrace the Cross of Christ is by filling ourselves with the revelation of what God did for us through the Cross of Christ and embracing all those things as our reality. This is what Paul was praying about in our text above.

The major way we grasp/understand how wide, long, high and deep the love of Christ is, is by filling ourselves with the revelation of all He did for us by His Cross. The Cross of Christ is God’s highest expression of His love to man. God so loved the world that He gave Christ, (John 3:16). The way God showed us His love is that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us, (Rom.5:8). As this revelation of all Christ did on the Cross fills our hearts, our lives will be filled with all the fullness of God. Our lives will be filled with the manifestations of the benefits of the Cross.

This revelation about all God has done for us by the Cross of Christ is the power of God, (Rom.1:16, 1 Cor.1:18). This is the source of our faith, (Rom.10:13-17). God supplies His Spirit and works miracles in our lives as we hear and put our faith in what Christ did on the Cross, (Gal.3:5). It is the key to our walking in newness of life, (Rom.6:1-4).

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, please help me to understand all Christ did on the Cross and help me to embrace them as my reality.
