GRACE TO KEEP FOLLOWING HARD AFTER GOD

Genesis 5:21-24 (NLT), Psalms 63:8, Acts 13:22 When Enoch was 65 years old, he became the father of Methuselah. After the birth of Methuselah, Enoch lived in close fellowship with God for another 300 years, and he had other sons and daughters. Enoch lived 365 years, walking in close fellowship with God. Then one day he disappeared, because God took him. *My soul followeth hard after thee: thy right hand upholdeth me. *…I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfil all my will.

God is seeking men and women that will walk in close fellowship with Him. For God to say that He had ‘found’ David, a man after His own heart, means that God was looking for someone who would be after His own heart and He was glad to find David. In John 4:23, Jesus said, the Father is seeking those who will worship Him in Spirit and in truth. The Bible is filled with stories about how men like Enoch, Abraham and David not only walked but also maintained a relationship with God and followed hard after Him.

The truth is that none of these men that followed hard after God were different or more special than us. What happened is that when God stirred their hearts to follow Him, they simply yielded to that stirring of God in their spirits. Jesus reminded us that no man can come to Him except the Father draws him, (John 6:44). Do you realise that God is always calling and drawing us to Himself? Jesus called each of His disciples and they followed Him. He said, ‘my sheep hear my voice and they follow me’.

How are you responding to the opportunities and stirring in your heart to draw nearer to God? (Isa.55:6) Are you yielding and following hard after God? What things are you seeking and following hard after? Is God one of them? God is always at work in us, making us willing (having the desire) and able (having the ability) to do His good will, (Phil.2:13). Beloved, every day I am yielding to God’s stirring in my heart and I am following hard after Him. I want you to join me and do the same. You will never regret following hard after God.

Prayer:
I desire a deeper and closer walk with You, Dear Lord. Draw me nearer to You. I want to follow hard after You.
