GROWING IN THE LIGHT OF GOD’S WORD

Psalm 119:105, 2Peter 1:19 (KJV, GNB)

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts.So we are even more confident of the message proclaimed by the prophets. You will do well to pay attention to it, because it is like a lamp shining in a dark place until the Day dawns and the light of the morning star shines in your hearts.

Receiving God’s Word is a major way that we fellowship with God and show that we are passionate about increasing in His light. If you are stranded and trying to find your way in a dark room that you are not very conversant with and all of a sudden, light begins to shine from a far corner, what are you going to do? I’m sure you will be filled with hope and you will walk quickly towards that light in order to find your way around the room. That is the attitude we must maintain towards God’s Word. Consider God’s Word as light directed towards us; light that we can utilize on a daily basis to find our way through the darkness of this world. Treat God’s Word like your only hope because indeed, it will give you both hope and direction to succeed in this life, (Josh.1:8).

Like our second text above says, if you pay attention to God’s Word and follow it wholeheartedly, God’s light will dawn around you and also arise in your heart. As God’s truth and wisdom enter you, they drive away every darkness and ignorance that may have limited you in any area of your life. God’s truth enlightens your heart and causes you to know and exercise more of God’s power and glory that is in you, Eph.1:18-20.

When you are in the dark about any area of your life, you can ask God for His light and also seek His Word for His light. He will give you His wisdom that will cause you to humbly walk in His ways. You will know what to do and you will experience God’s perfect will for your life. Listen attentively and meditate on God’s Word. Allow the Holy Spirit to reveal God’s mind to you from His Word. Practise God’s Word. Continually renew your mind with God’s Word, Rom.12:2.

Prayer Focus:
Tell God that His Word is your light and ask Him for His truth and wisdom to fill you and guide you in every area of your life.
