HANDLING HURTS, DISAPPOINTMENTS AND DISCOURAGEMENTS

Proverbs 13:12 (KJV, CEV), Psalms 61:2 (KJV, TPT)

Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life. *Not getting what you want can make you feel sick, but a wish that comes true is a life-giving tree. *From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.*For no matter where I am, even when I’m far from home, I will cry out to you for a father’s help. When I’m feeble and overwhelmed by life, guide me into your glory, where I am safe and sheltered.

In what way do you handle hurts, disappointments and discouragements? Such experiences are usually more painful when they come from people or situations that we do not expect them from. However, God wants us to know that in such times, His help is always available to us. The Bible says, “God is our shelter and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble,” (Psa.46:1, GNB). His grace is sufficient. Sometimes, hurts, disappointments and discouragements can make us feel very low, empty, alone or vulnerable and in such times, the devil likes to lie to us so that he can take advantage of us. We must not allow the devil do this to us.

We must learn how to get comfort from God and His Spirit in such times. Our God is the God of all comfort, (2Cor.1:3). Remember God’s love and promises. Pray and declare God’s word into your life. Ask God for His wisdom. Praise and worship God, declaring that He is faithful. Have godly people you can share with and get prayer and encouragement from. Keep walking in love. Be slow to speak but quick to hear. Hear more of what God is saying and speak it over your life.

That situation will not be a stumbling block to you. Rather, it will be a stepping stone. Instead of it to limit or stop you, it will be an opportunity for you to experience the glory and power of God and move to a new level in life and in God. Remember that all things work together for your good and that many are the afflictions of the righteous but God delivers him from them all. You will come out better on the other side. God will make a way of escape for you so you can bear and handle the situation. Be encouraged, (1Sam.30:6-8).

Action Point:
Ask God to help you stay focused on the assignment He has given you. Declare God’s word of strength and victory into your life.
