HAVING COMPASSION

“Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous:”

-1 PETER 3:8-

In today’s world, we are filled with the syndrome of me, my family, and I, even in the body of Christ. It does not portray true Christianity as Christ was the exact opposite. He lived the life of God first, others next, others next. Love and Christianity cannot be separated, because the whole Christian faith is built on love- God’s love for humanity! And you cannot have compassion without first loving.

Having compassion means that you have a feeling of sympathy for the lost, suffering, and sad. It has nothing to do with whether or not you are biologically related to that person, but whether or not you feel the love of God for your fellow brethren. More so, it does not have to be someone of the same faith, belief, religion, or educational qualification as you; it stems from being obedient to God’s Word on loving your neighbour as yourself.

You cannot be a successful minister without having compassion. I think this is what confirms the statement that “many are called but few are chosen.” We are all called into the ministry of reconciliation, but few are found worthy on the basis of their compassion towards God’s people- all of God’s people. Ministry is not for what you can gain, but for what you can give. It is not about “milking” the people, but supplying them with the required “milk” they need, to grow.

Many ministers and ministries have failed today on the basis of compassion, or lack thereof. The compassion Jesus has was and is what makes Him perform the many miracles and signs, which He does today (Mark 6:34). As a minister’s wife, you need the grace of God to look beyond your own self: your wants and desires, towards the needs of others. This will enable you evangelise properly, preach a better message because you live the same, give back to your community, and fulfill your ministry here on the earth. Remember, we are called to be our brother’s keeper. You will not fail in the name of Jesus!

Remain Blessed!
