Text: Psalm 132:11-18 (KJV)

11 The LORD hath sworn in truth unto David; he will not turn from it; Of the fruit of thy body will I set upon thy throne.

12 If thy children will keep my covenant and my testimony that I shall teach them, their children shall also sit upon thy throne for evermore.

13 For the LORD hath chosen Zion; he hath desired it for his habitation.

14 This is my rest for ever: here will I dwell; for I have desired it.

15 I will abundantly bless her provision: I will satisfy her poor with bread.

16 I will also clothe her priests with salvation: and her saints shall shout aloud for joy.

17 There will I make the horn of David to bud: I have ordained a lamp for mine anointed.

18 His enemies will I clothe with shame: but upon himself shall his crown flourish.

Key Verse: “The LORD hath sworn in truth unto David; he will not turn from it; Of the fruit of thy body will I set upon thy throne” (Psalm 132:11).

MESSAGE:

God’s ability to keep His word is never in doubt. He is Omnipotent, Omnipresent and Omniscient. Irrespective of persons involved – kings, leaders, followers and sinners – God is able to fulfil all His promises, and no word of His shall return to Him void.

Man’s wisdom to place absolute confidence in God’s promises is based on His faithfulness, dependability and trustworthiness. He keeps His covenant. He does not change; He places greater value on His word than on His name. So, there is nothing He says that He will not do.

God had entered into a covenant with David, a man after His own heart. He promised by an oath to set his children upon the throne in an endless succession (2 Samuel 7:8-19). He had chosen Zion and desired it for His habitation. God never turns from His purpose much less His promise, solemnly ratified by an oath. Did the promise become a reality?

The expectations of this prayer were never fulfilled through David’s descendants who were kings of Israel and Judah. This was because of Israel’s sin of forsaking the Lord, leading to the destruction of Jerusalem in 586BC. The desires expressed in this prayer would be fulfilled only through Jesus Christ, when He comes to reign forever in the Millennium.

Like every promise of God, that of perpetual succession was predicated on continued implicit obedience of successive generations of David’s descendants to His words. Applicably, we reap God’s blessings by sowing actions of continued obedience to His commandments.

Thought For The Day: God is ever faithful to His covenants.
