Home, Sweet Home (2)

Dear Reader,

Welcome to the concluding part of this teaching. Remember, God instituted marriage, and He intended every house to be a sweet and peaceful home. God has designed our homes to be sweet; a place of joy, peace, prosperity and fruitfulness abound. Last week, I examined one vital spice that makes for a happy, joyful and exciting home. This week, I will examine another powerful spice title, ‘Giving of Gifts’.

I like you to know that a sweet home is possible, but it does not happen by chance; you need to work it out if you desire it. Nothing works until you work it! That is why the Scripture says: Every house is builded by a man … (Hebrews 3:4). You cannot build a house by merely wishing it, and you cannot have a sweet home except you work it out. God so loved the world, and He gave His son (John 3:16). So if you claim to love, it must find expression in your giving. A thoughtful little gift at the right time can work wonders and cause another honeymoon. Also, it is not the amount of money spent that matters but the kind thought behind it.

Concerning Elkanah and Hannah, the Bible records that Elkanah was sensitive to the needs of his wife. He had so mastered the art of ministering to Hannah’s emotional needs that he could say to her, … Am not I better to thee than ten sons (I Samuel 1:8). A gift at the right time to your spouse can enhance your relationship and make it more precious. You must do all your best to know what your husband likes or what your wife or children need. It is not the volume but the expression of your care that really counts. You cannot love without giving. Giving is a way of expressing love. Similarly, it is a way of brightening up the atmosphere at home when it is dull. Husband, there may be times when your wife is down physically, but remember, ‘love is medicine’. At such times, all you need to do is to show a little more love, and she will be okay. Some kind words, a little physical touch, some kisses or a little gift from you will do the magic. You could use the time she would have spent at the doctor’s office to demonstrate your love to her, and you would not need to spend money on drugs. Love is medicine!

Also, you must make it a point of duty to remember special days such as birthdays, anniversaries, special occasions and share the joy of the moment by exchanging gifts. These are little things that have the ability to lift your marriage. These were the things you did while courting, you should not let them slip because you are now married. May the Lord grant you understanding!

Therefore, you need the grace to be a given, thereby enjoying a sweet home. However, to access this grace, you must be born again. If you are not born again, please say this prayer of faith: Dear Lord, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me my sins. Cleanse me with Your precious Blood. I accept You as my Lord and Saviour.  Now, I know I am born again!
