Home, Sweet Home!

Dear Reader,

Happy New Month! There is no doubt God has been faithful to you and your family. God instituted marriage, and He intended every home to be a sweet and peaceful place. When this is not so, it is evident that something vital is missing. Therefore, I examine some little things I call spices that can be added to give your family life an unusual glow. So, this week, I will focus on ‘Creating Joy and Excitement’.

Creating joy and excitement at home is one major thing lacking in today’s families. Laughter is far from them, and they never see the need to express joy; nothing is worth celebrating. From today, you shall have every reason to celebrate! Every dullness and sorrow in your family will be turned to joy, in Jesus’ name!

You were created to create, so you can create whatever is lacking in your family. The Lord gave a command through Paul, and he said: Rejoice and again I say rejoice(Philippians 4:4). You can make room for excitement in your family so that God can reside in you. Some time ago, my husband said, ‘Happiness is not found anywhere; it is created. Do not wait for it to come and visit you, create it!’

Therefore, your home should not be a place where silence is present due to a cold war going on. In a family, the success of each member is tied to the success of others. Home and family life are exciting experiences; they are not necessary evils, and God delight in them. So, they are meant to be one of the most exciting parts of your life as a child of God. Note that excitement or happiness does not fall on you because you are a Christian; you programme yourself for it. Your home should not be a prison yard. A colourful home is not made by murmuring and complaining. With a little laughter, praise and thanksgiving, life at home can be exciting, both to God and members of your family. Share things together and as much as possible, find time to have one major meal together, and you know eating together could be fun and a time of joy to remember.

In spite of my husband’s busy schedule, he finds time to play and makes humorous statements to the delight of his children. Those who know him are quite aware that he is a jolly person to be with, always having a joke to defuse tension anytime he sees sad looking faces. God created the family in such a way that the happiness of one member affects the other.

To enjoy a peaceful and exciting home, you must be born again. If you are not born again, please say this prayer of faith: Dear Lord, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me my sins. Cleanse me with Your precious Blood. I accept You as my Lord and Saviour.  Now, I know I am born again!
