MEMORISE: “Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour.” – Romans 13:7

READ: John 19:25-27

25 Now there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene.

26 When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son!

27 Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 1 Samuel 1-3; Luke 12:1-34

MESSAGE:

Exodus 20;12 commands us to honour our parents if we want to live long. Note that there is an ‘if’. So any child who disregards his parents may not live long. It is unfortunate that so.e children dishonour their parents. You can dishonour your parents in the following ways: pretending not to hear them when they call you to send you on an errand, talking back at them or even arguing with them, not taking good care of them particularly when either of them is ill, not following their instructions to the letter, not studying to bring back the expected results after working hard to pay your fees and not living godly like they expect you to. If you do any of these, please change your attitude today.

Learn from Jesus, he never disobeyed his parents. He was compassionate about them even while suffering on the cross. He put His mother in the care of John, His closest disciple. Love your parents. Sow good seeds that you’d love to reap. If you truly love them, you will honour them. Though, their actions might look wicked and harsh to you now, wait until you become a parent, then you will understand better.

Action Point:

Pray for your parents today and if you ha e not been honouring them, ask for them forgiveness and change.

Hymn 8:

1.God give us Christian homes!
Homes Where the Bible is loved and taught,
Homes where the master’s will is sought,
Homes crowned with beauty
Thy love hath wrought;
God give us Christian homes;
God give us Christian homes!

2.God give us Christian homes!
Homes where the father is true and strong,
Homes that are free from the blight of wrong,
Homes that are joyous with love and song;
God give us Christian homes;
God give us Christian homes!

3.God give us Christian homes!
Homes where the mother in queenly quest,
Strives to show others Thy way is best,
Homes where the Lord is an honoured guest;
God give us Christian homes;
God give us Christian homes!

4.God give us Christian homes!
Homes where the Children are led to know,
Christ in His beauty who loves them so,
Homes where the altar fire burn and glow;
God give us Christian homes;
God give us Christian homes!
