HOW DID JESUS DO THE WORK OF GOD?
Luke 2:46 & 49 (NKJV), John 5:19 Now so it was that after three days they found Him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, both listening to them and asking them questions. *And He said to them, “Why did you seek Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father’s business?” *Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.

In the past two days, we have been studying about how the primary thing that should be in our minds when we think of the work of God, is putting our faith on Jesus. We have also seen that everything else flows from here, including what we receive from God and what we do to please God. Today, we shall look at how Jesus Himself practiced this while He was on the earth. First of all, when Jesus said to Mary and Joseph, “Why did you seek Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father’s business?” What business of the Father was He actually doing? He was focusing on the revelation of God’s word. Luke 2:49 in The Passion Translation declares, “Jesus said to them, “Why would you need to search for me? Didn’t you know that it was necessary for me to be here in my Father’s house, consumed with him?”
Everything about Jesus’ life flowed from here. His priority was not the activities He did for God, His priority was His time of fellowship with God. He never allowed the increase of His popularity and the increase of His ministry activities to stop Him from withdrawing Himself into a quiet place to pray, (Luke 5:15-16). Sometimes, He continued all night in prayer to God, (Luke 6:12). Do you think all He was doing in prayer was asking for His needs to be met? He was asking the Father to open His eyes to what the Father was doing. In our second text above, Jesus said on His own He could not do anything and that all He did was what He saw the Father doing. He was fully dependent on the Father. In the same way, as God opens our eyes to what He has done for us in Christ, we will be empowered to manifest it. We will be able to cooperate with the work God is doing in us to make us willing and able to do His good will, (Phil.2:13).
Prayer:
I can do nothing without you Dear Father. Fill and consume me Lord. Open my eyes to see what you have done for me in Christ so I can manifest it.
