HOW GOD WANTS YOU TO RESIST THE DEVIL (1)

1Peter 5:8-9, James 4:7

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. *Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Our first text above says we resist the devil by being steadfast in the faith and our second text above says to resist the devil we must submit to God. The major way God wants you to resist the devil is by keeping your faith and focusing on Him (God), and not by focusing or talking about what the devil is doing.

To be steadfast in the faith and to submit or agree with God, our faith and focus must be on God. The way to keep our faith and focus on God is by keeping our focus on God’s great love for us and on the wonderful things that Jesus has done for us. Faith comes by hearing the gospel of Christ, (Rom.10:13-17). Jesus came to destroy the works and the power of the devil and he succeeded, (Heb.2:14, 1 John 3:8). Jesus has already given us victory! What we do right now, is to stand on the victory that Jesus has already won over the devil and enforce that victory in our lives. We must know what Jesus has done for us and stand on it by declaring it into our lives.

The devil’s major weapons are lies, (Eph.6:11) and we stand and resist his lies by holding onto the truth of Christ. That is how we cast down every thought and imagination that wants to exalt itself above the knowledge of Christ, (2 Cor.10:3-5). Jesus did the same, (Luke 4:1-13).

Prayer:
Father, I thank you that Christ has already won the victory over the devil for me. Help me to always declare this truth against the devil.
