HOW OUR FAITH IN GOD PRODUCES LOVE FOR OTHERS

Eph. 1:15 (CEV), Col. 1:3-4 (CEV), Philemon 1:4-5 (CEV)

I have heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all of God’s people. *Each time we pray for you, we thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. We have heard of your faith in Christ and of your love for all of God’s people *Philemon, each time I mention you in my prayers, I thank God. I hear about your faith in our Lord Jesus and about your love for all of God’s people.

In all the scriptures in our text above, we see that whenever Paul heard about the faith of believers, something always accompanied that news – their love for one another. Their faith in God produced love for one another. Interestingly, 1 John 3:14 (CEV) says, “Our love for each other proves that we have gone from death to life…” That is, our love for each other proves that we have put faith in Christ.

When the Bible says faith without works is dead (James 2:14-26), the works James was referring to are works or manifestations of love. He was saying when you have faith in God, it will produce love in your heart for others and you will show or express that love by your works of kindness to others.

How then does our faith in God produce love for others? Our faith in God produces love for others when our faith in God comes from our hearing the Gospel of Christ. The Gospel of Christ is about the amazing love of God that God has shown us through Christ. The more our hearts are filled with the revelation of the love God has shown us in Christ, the more our hearts will be filled with faith and God’s love. This love of God in our hearts will then begin to overflow from our lives. We will find ourselves effortlessly expressing God’s love to others.

Prayer:
Father, I thank you for the great love you have shown me in Christ. May the revelation of your love continually fill my heart.
