HOW TO ABOUND

PHILIPPIANS 4:12 (KJV, GNB) I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. *I know what it is to be in need and what it is to have more than enough. I have learned this secret, so that anywhere, at any time, I am content, whether I am full or hungry, whether I have too much or too little.

In our text above, Apostle Paul made a very important statement about how he lives and thrives in God’s will for his life no matter the condition he finds himself in. He also stated that it was something he learnt. In the very next verse, he stated how he was able to learn and apply this knowledge to his life. It was through the wisdom and strength of Christ, (Phil.4:13). That same wisdom and strength is available to you today.

What Paul meant by ‘to abound’ is to have abundance. In other words, how to behave when you have abundance. When you’re experiencing abundance, don’t become high-minded (proud), and don’t put your trust in your riches; for they are uncertain. Keep your trust in God who gave you that abundance, (1 Tim.6:17). Keep listening to God and following His leading. Don’t start despising and maltreating people. Also, do not relax or become conceited and complacent. Don’t start compromising. It was when David chose to stay at home instead of going to battle that he committed adultery with Bathsheba and killed her husband, (2 Sam.11:1-4). The rich fool lost his soul because he saw the abundance he was experiencing as only an opportunity to relax and indulge himself, (Luke 12:16-21). The Bible says the prosperity of fools shall destroy them, (Prov.1:32). Celebrate and thank God for the abundance. Remain humble. Yield yourself more to God. Keep following His leading and doing His will.

PRAYER:
Father, I pray that by the wisdom and strength of Christ, I will never become proud, compromise or be distracted by abundance
