How to love your kids well

Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.

–Philippians 2:3

I have a good friend named Bill, who is a member at one of the very first churches I pastored. Years ago, when his kids were small (they’re all adults now), he made it his goal to take each one of them on a mission trip when they graduated from high school. And sure enough, he did just that for each of his five kids.

Now, it’s not like Bill just one day said, “Okay, today’s the day! Let’s head to the airport.” No, his goal for his kids took saving, planning, and intentionality. He wanted his kids to get a picture of the unevangelized world and learn how they could be a part of God’s global purposes. But it took work and planning on his part.

Very often, the most powerful impressions we’ll leave on our kids take time, energy, and resources. I know a man who sets aside one weekend a year with each of his kids to take them camping just to talk about what’s going on in their lives. And another takes his two daughters out on a fun date every year for their birthdays.

It’s the intentional moments your kids will remember. Never forget that. Put time, energy, and resources into loving your kids well. They won’t forget it!

BE INTENTIONAL ABOUT LOVING YOUR KIDS WELL BY INVESTING YOUR TIME, ENERGY, AND RESOURCES IN THEM.
