HOW WE ARE PERFECTED BY PERSECUTION AND TRIALS

Hebrews 2:10 (CEV), Hebrews 5:8-9 (GNB)

Everything belongs to God, and all things were created by his power. So God did the right thing when he made Jesus perfect by suffering, as Jesus led many of God’s children to be saved and to share in his glory. *But even though he was God’s Son, he learned through his sufferings to be obedient. When he was made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all those who obey him

In fulfilling the ministry and assignment that God has given us, there are persecutions and trials that we must go through. These persecutions and trials are not punishment from God and they are not things like sickness that Jesus has suffered and died for us to have victory over. They are mainly challenges that we will face from people and situations as we live for Christ and as we embark on fulfilling the assignment God has given us. For example, the reason Paul suffered the way that he did was not because of the things he did before he began to follow Jesus. It was because of the ministry and assignment that God had given him, (Acts 9:15-16).

Jesus too had to go through such suffering to prepare and perfect Him for the assignment that God had given Him. One way we are perfected through persecution and trials is, as gold is purified in fire, our faith is purified and strengthened, (1Pet.1:7). The testing of our faith produces steadfastness and leads to our perfection, (James 1:2-4). Our faith in God gets stronger as we exercise it in such situations.

Another way that we are perfected is that the things we go through produce compassion in us. Compassion makes us better ministers.
We understand what people go through better and are able to help them overcome, just like Jesus does for us, (Heb.4:14-16).

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I thank you that my persecution and trials are strengthening my faith and building compassion inside me.
