HOW WE SUFFER WITH CHRIST (1)

Romans 8:16-18 (NKJV), Acts 9:16 (NIV)

The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together. For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. *I will show him how much he must suffer for my name.

The willingness to suffer alongside Christ is a significant result of embracing the Cross. To understand how to suffer alongside Christ, we must first understand why He suffered in the first place.

The reason Jesus suffered was for our redemption. “For Christ also once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being crucified in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit” (1Pet.3:18-19). Jesus did not suffer for himself or for anything He did wrong or lacked. He suffered for us in order that we might be saved and become all that God desires us to be. This is the same reason we are to suffer alongside Him.

Right now, the way we suffer with Christ is to preach the Gospel of what Christ did on the Cross so that people can be saved and become all that God wants them to be. All that Christ did on the Cross is very powerful and wonderful, but people will not experience that power and blessings in their lives until they hear the good news of what Christ did. Our preaching of Christ’s Gospel is a great privilege (Phil.1:29), and it is as important as everything Christ did on the Cross.

The reason the early apostles and believers suffered for Christ was because they were preaching the Gospel of Christ. In Acts 5:40-42, the disciples were arrested for preaching the Gospel and after they were beaten and warned not to preach anymore, they went back rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer for the name of Jesus.

Faith Declaration:
I join Christ in His suffering by preaching the Gospel of all He did on the Cross. I will do this no matter what I face.
