And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown

A story is told of John, a Montana rancher, who spent his days working alongside his father and grandfather. He anticipated how his own sons would follow in their footsteps.

Finally, eight-year-old Jess was ready to ride along. John chose his most reliable horse for Jess. Side by side, they worked in the pastures through the day. As evening approached, they turned for the long ride home.

Jess challenged John to a race, and before he could caution him, Jess took off. What began as a trot turned into a lope until the horse was at a dead run. The small boy had no strength to stop the large animal. In terror, he cried frantically, “Daddy, help me!”

John tried desperately to grab the reins, but the horse quickly outran his slower steed. When he arrived at the trailer, he found Jess sobbing hysterically – but physically unharmed. That night, as the house slept, John awoke from a nightmare. Why was he so upset when his son was safe?

Then, he heard the voice of the Lord: “Teach him to take the reins. This will not be the last runaway he is ever on.” Life is full of runaways, situations that we have no ability to control. We need someone wiser and stronger to teach us how to diligently follow the Lord and to take the reins. How can you do this for the children in your life?

Blessing:

May the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you and give you His peace. May you train up your children in the Word of the Lord. May you and your family develop a passion to practice the principles of His truth.
