‘In the Hands of God’: Jared Kushner Reveals He Battled Thyroid Cancer during Trump’s Presidency

Jared Kushner, the son-in-law and ex-senior advisor of former president Donald Trump, revealed his battle with thyroid cancer during his time in the White House.

Kushner, 41, addressed his battle with the disease in his upcoming book, Breaking History: A White House Memoir, which is set to release on Aug. 9.

“On the morning that I traveled to Texas to attend the opening of a Louis Vuitton factory, White House physician Sean Conley pulled me into the medical cabin on Air Force One,” Kushner wrote in his book. “‘Your test results came back from Walter Reed,’ he said. ‘It looks like you have cancer. We need to schedule surgery right away.'”

“Please don’t tell anyone – especially my wife or my father-in-law,” he recalls telling Dr. Conley.

While the cancer was caught early, Kushner was told that a “substantial part of my thyroid” had to be removed, which could result in long-term damage to his voice.

According to CBN News, Kushner kept the news of the diagnosis a secret from everyone except his wife, Ivanka Trump, White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney and two of Kushner’s aides, Avi Berkowitz and Cassidy Luna.

“With the exception of Ivanka, Avi, Cassidy, and Mulvaney, I didn’t tell anyone at the White House — including the president,” he wrote.

Kushner added that he kept himself busy with work so that he wouldn’t have to think about the disease, People Magazine reports.

“When I did think about it, I reminded myself that it was in the hands of God and the doctors and that whatever happened was out of my control,” he said. “At moments, I caught myself wondering whether I would need extensive treatment.”

Despite not telling his father-in-law, Kushner shared that the former President told him that he knew about his cancer diagnosis a day before he underwent surgery.

“I’m the President. I know everything. I understand that you want to keep these things quiet. I like to keep things like this to myself as well,” Kushner recalls Trump saying, according to Fox News. “You’ll be just fine. Don’t worry about anything with work. We have everything covered here.”

Last June, Kushner signed a book deal with Broadside Books, a conservative imprint of HarperCollins, to write about Trump’s presidency.

After leaving the White House, Kushner and Ivanka relocated from Washington D.C. to Miami, Florida, where he launched the investment firm Affinity Partners last year.
