And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all peoples to Myself

Horses straining towards the fight, soldiers bravely brandishing their swords, and banners flying proudly in the wind – we can picture the battle scenes of old.

While the conflict raged and the ground was in question, no army hoisted its victory banner. But when one army vanquished another, when the enemy fell back in defeat, the conquering army planted its flag firmly in the dirt. No longer in question, the ground now belonged to the victor.

Before we come to the cross, the ground of our soul is in question. Our eternal destiny is uncertain. Satan fights ferociously to capture and carry us to hell. Jesus was lifted up on the cross, hoisted above the battle. His death means certain victory for all who accept His invitation for life everlasting.

At the cross, Jesus draws all people to Himself. No one has ever been rejected or turned away. Every single soul can find its home in Him. Satan may attempt to torment, but he cannot overpower us. He may attack, but he will not destroy us. He may come at us from one direction, but he will flee from us on seven different routes (Deuteronomy 28:7).

Whose banner flies over the soil of your soul? Whose victory flag is planted in the battleground of your heart? Let there be no question Who reigns over your life.

Blessing:

May the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you and give you His peace. This is a day of triumph, joy, and celebration. His banner over you is love and victory!
